The journey to Knutsford
I’m Sophy, and I’ve been a cat person for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Warrington with family cats around me, I developed a real passion for all animals – but cats in particular have always held a special place in my heart.
That love led me to volunteer with Cats Protection in Warrington, where I saw first hand the difference professional, compassionate care makes to cats’ wellbeing. In 2021, I joined as a sitter with an existing business and the job made me truly happy.
Serving my local area in Warrington, my zone quickly became one of the busiest in the business. I loved the work – building relationships with cats and their owners, providing that essential care, and giving people the freedom to travel without worry.
Then in December 2023, my partner David and I moved to Knutsford. At first, I tried continuing to serve the Warrington area, but it quickly became clear I was stretching myself too thin.
But I genuinely loved cat sitting. I’d seen and heard about the power of professional home care versus catteries – how much happier and more settled cats are when they stay in their familiar environment. I wanted to bring that benefit to Knutsford and the surrounding areas.
So I made a decision. I’d leave the other business and start my own, focusing entirely on my new home and the community I was happy to be part of.
Why Cat Sitters of Knutsford needed to exist
When I started researching the Knutsford area, I knew exactly what I wanted to build. I wanted to create a service that specialised purely in cats, with professional systems and structure to support genuinely personal care.
Cat owners here deserved a service that understood cats specifically, that offered genuine comfort and wellbeing for their cats, and that brought reliability and professionalism to every visit.
I wanted to create something that combined my love for cats with my professional background. Outside of cat sitting, I work as a development manager at Beech Web Services, where I’ve spent over 10 years building expertise in business strategy and operations. This background means I can bring real structure and professionalism to Cat Sitters of Knutsford whilst keeping the personal, caring touch at the heart of everything we do.
I find my customers respond positively when they learn about this dual experience. It builds trust – they know the business is run properly, with systems and reliability, but they also see the genuine passion and care behind every visit.

There’s nothing quite like meeting a new cat, learning their personality and quirks, and building that bond of trust over visits. And then there are the owners. Seeing them so happy about our visit updates whilst they’re away. Hearing their relief and joy when they come home to find their cat relaxed and content. And then – the ultimate compliment – when they instantly book the next visit because they know we’ve done a brilliant job.

As our business continues to grow and thrive, we believe strongly in giving back to causes that align with our values and purpose.
Cats Protection: At the core of our mission is the care we offer for cats. Cats Protection offers a safe space for cats to be cared for, nurtured, and rehomed. We’re committed to sponsoring a pen and its resident each month at the National Cat Centre. As our team grows, we increase our sponsorship level – giving back to more cats as we grow.
Ecologi: We’re committed to carbon offsetting through Ecologi, funding reforestation, deforestation protection, greenhouse gas capture, and wetland restoration projects around the world. Cat Sitters of Knutsford is a low carbon producing organisation, and we use carbon offsetting as our foundation for supporting our planet. Again, as our team grows, we increase our subscription to ensure our environmental impact remains positive.
These commitments matter to us. They’re part of being a responsible business that cares about more than just profit.
